I was briefly detoured from a couple projects by my new found love of the lathe.  I got up early this morning and turned a few things.  Found some old locust posts kicking around so I cut one down for a couple chisel handles.  I really like old socket chisels.  One was a $1 find (TH Witherby!), the other (Samson) was sitting in the shop drawer with no handle and a mushroomed end from misuse.  So a cleaning and new handles for both!  I also made a chisel mallet from a mulberry log from my parents property.  I may make a hammer style mallet once I see if I like this one or not.  Now I can get back to other things, including my dads desk, so I can use my new old chisels.  I’ve spent more time in a wood shop this summer than I have in at least 15 years.
