Bought my first molding planes last weekend at my favorite antique/junk shop.  Just a few bucks.  A couple wedges were broken and the blades needed to be sharpened.  Restored the first one.  Made the wedge out of some straight grain I pulled out of the firewood, which you can see behind it.  I knocked it out with nothing but hand tools: axe & mallet, spokeshave, planes, coping saw, and a scraper.  Surprisingly fast and easier than expected.  These old school ways of working are fascinating to me.  I’m gonna remake this wedge and the other I need to replace out of some cherry I found in the pile.
