Old doors on the new workshop

Finally…

Found the old doors to the shop in the basement.  I had all the original hinges and hardware too, minus the lock plates for the door jamb, which have to be here somewhere.

Re-chiseled the filled mortises for the hinges.  Had to fill the old screw holes with glued in dowels.  Cleaned up the vintage hardware.

This was my bedroom/living room when I first moved in.  One door never closed completely.  Planed about 1/8” off the bottom 2/3s of the door and sealed it with shellac.  Now I can close it!

It was a bit of an ordeal, but they are beautiful doors, and you just can’t beat old hardware.  Now that I can close the doors, I can work on humidity.
