Made a marking knife today out of an old reciprocating hack saw blade, a brass tube and a piece of scrap paduk. I tried a different version bolting a handle on but that saw blade was so hard I couldn’t drill through it. I heated the metal till cherry red and tried several times with quality bits. So I changed course and went for the tang inserted into the handle. The blade looks blued in the pic, which must be the lighting, it’s polished to a decent mirror finish. Good practice on the lathe for all those chisels I want to re-handle.
Bought an old chisel with no handle for a buck last weekend. Cleaned it up and turned some wood for the first time this morning. Came out ok for the first time I used a lathe. Next time I will use a more suitable wood for a chisel handle.
